Chapter 10
At some point during the night, we must have made it upstairs because I woke up in bed. For a second, I wondered if it was all a dream and if today was a visiting day for Abbey. I looked beside me and she was not in bed, so I sat up quickly and tried to assess what was reality. I did not see any sign to suggest that she was here, except that I was naked in bed and I never slept naked. I smiled when I looked down at my breasts and saw her teeth mark on my skin.
âAbbs?â I called but got no answer. âBaby?â
I got out of bed and slipped into a robe, then I checked the bathroom. She was not there. I quickly did a rapid version of my morning routine then returned to the bedroom and I saw Abbey coming through the door with a tray.
âYouâre ruining my breakfast-in-bed plan, G. Get back into bed,â Abbey said and I smiled.
âIâm sorry, baby,â I said and climbed back in. âYou made breakfast?â
âI have to start practicing,â she said and placed the tray over me. âYouâll be providing for our family and I will take care of you and the children.â
âThat sounds wonderful, honey,â I laughed and picked up the fork. I cut into the egg and brought it to my mouth.
âHow is it? This is my first time cooking in fifteen years.â
âItâs delicious, baby. Youâre very smart. There are some things you will never forget, and there are things youâll figure out as you go along. Your brain will go back for all the things it stored.â
âAm I dreaming?â
âI thought that way when I woke up and you werenât in bed.â
âScary, isnât it? If we should suddenly wake up.â
âDonât even joke about that,â I said and she chuckled. I put a toast to her mouth and she bit into it. âThank you for breakfast, honey, and Iâm really happy to have you home.â
âIâm happy to be home. This house is beautiful.â
âIâm happy you like it. I made a lot of decisions based on what I think you would want because I didnât want you to have anything to do when you came home,â I said as I ate.
âWe really donât have a lot of time to waste, G. I want us to have today, but while weâre relaxing and catching up, we need to planâ¦â
âNope. There will be no planning today. Today, we will talk about whatâs going on in my life and youâll tell me what went on in yours,â I said.
âI donât want to go back. I did my time and now Iâm out. I donât want to rememberâ¦â
âBut you promised me stories.â
âThose stories will add nothing to our lives. When they were happening, I was excited to share them with you and tried to store them all for when I got out, but now that Iâm here, I donât want to waste any time on that. If something pops into my
